goAML

goAML is the UNODC-developed software financial intelligence units use to receive STRs and CTRs from reporting institutions.

goAML explained

goAML was built by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime as a standard system for financial intelligence units. It gives reporting institutions a web portal and an XML file format for submitting reports, and gives the unit tools to receive, analyse and manage them.

For an institution, the practical consequence is that a report must be structured exactly the way the goAML schema expects: the reporting entity, the transactions, and every person or account involved, each with the required fields. A report that does not validate against the schema is rejected.

Institutions with few reports can type them into the portal; institutions with many prefer to generate the XML from their own systems and upload it.

Why it matters in life insurance

The FIC in Zambia receives STRs and CTRs through goAML, so every reporting institution needs a reliable way to produce schema-valid reports. Hand-built reports are slow and error-prone, especially when the same person data must be repeated across many transactions. ERMAML, the Ontech Risk & Compliance Suite, generates goAML-schema XML from the case and customer records, including registry-verified identifiers, ready for upload.
